Daniel McNeil returns to his childhood home on the East Coast of Canada at the request of his mother, Evelyn. With cancer spreading throughout her body, she has decided to request physician assisted death. Daniel is tasked with the responsibility to unite his father and siblings, while struggling to say goodbye to his mother.


Away Home won Best Cinematography at Cinemuskoka Festival, where it also won Best Short Film in 2018. The film played at TIFF's Canada's Top Ten Film Festival, 2018 (link).

The film was also an official selection at the 2017, Atlantic International Film Festival and won Best Student Film at the Hollywood North Film Festival, 2017. It was also an Official Selection at the Canada Independent Film Festival, 2018, Feel The Reel Film Festival, 2018 and Regina International Film Festival, 2018.
